There is an expense with this request, as the equipment is state mandated as a mobile commercial food vendor, thus mandated by state food and catering laws regulations. One of the largest expenses for a fundraising event is catering. We are not a business with a focus on making a profit. We are focused on providing our clients a low-cost alternative to catering and a huge return on their request.
The ideal fundraiser is a cancer family contacting Cops Against Cancer for financial assistance with a request of more than $1,000.00. At present, our traditional client is provided with approximately $1,000.00 in financial and resource assistance. This dollar amount is also dependent if there is funding available to finance the client’s request. The past two years, our organization has suspended client funding due to depleted funds. The demand for assistance was more that the availability of funds. With this trailer, this situation does not present itself. The trailer is able to fund a family’s request if the family is able to assist in coordinating and assisting in the preparation of an event in their community.
The mobile trailer purchase impacts more families and provides additional funding that would not be available without this resource. Our team responds by preparing a fundraising dinner in connection with a community hall, VFW, or church. We assist the client with the marketing and coordinating their event using our name as a marketing leveraging tool. PR for an event is expensive, marketing and promotion for a nonprofit are free or very low cost. Proceeds from the event would be split between our CAC organization; for their event expenses cover the initial minimal catering expenses (<$500.00) (meat, side dishes, dessert - all of which prepared in the BBQ trailer), and the majority of the proceeds to going directly to the cancer family. Noted; we are working with area grocery and meat retailers in getting a majority of our food requests donated or at a reduce price per pound. This will enhance benefit our client on their fundraising return.
This type of assistance then does not take away monies for our other client's funding. This project clearly generates funding for our client families, without affecting other cancer client funding.
This mobile trailer is clearly identified as a community initiative by our organization seeking additional sponsorship from other organizations and businesses and proudly display the community support by displaying the graphic logo of those keys supporters on the vehicle.
We are also working with law enforcement agencies from across the State of Iowa with a two-tier project. This collaboration with these departments is building a stronger alliance with the departments and cancer families in their communities. This partnership #1 is a BBQ community fundraiser coordinated with departments and proceeds from these events benefit the Cops Against Cancer Client Care programs.
#2 The departments also receive training from our organization in promoting our organization in their communities identifying and informing potential clients in their communities during their day to day duties and identifying resources available to prospective cancer clients. The departments screen potential clients and identify the specific needs and forward the information onto our organization for additional review. The departments are also playing a critical role in personally making the direct donation contact in delivering of our resources and assistance to the client.
After the first year, the start-up costs have been covered, and anything monies generated after our first year will be pure client benefit.
